(Adapted from a plot I wrote for another site that has now gone inactive.)
ROME, ITALY is the city of architecture, history and religion. It smothers the air like a thick perfume and makes it almost impossible to breathe, but for all the cheery airs and graces of the city, there is more to the home of the Vatican and the Coliseum than meets the eye. Every city has its heartache and flaws that it wants to cover up and forget about, and ultimately, Rome is no different.
Architecture, history and religion - they are all words that humans would associate with Rome and Italy in general, no? Things aren't that different in the feline world, either. Dogs, both domestic and wild, travel to the capital city to experience what most of the humans are talking about 'the historic touch' or something silly like that - it depends on who you hear it from.
And now Rome has a problem: it's a city overrun with dogs.
There are the charitable people of the capital that will take in an odd canine or two, like kind Cardinal Ambretti, one of the people famous in the area for having a house as overrun with dogs as the city is, but then there are other people that want nothing to do with the dogs. If anything, they want them out of their city.
But, as always, the problem isn't willing to go. The dogs don't see themselves as threats and aren't exactly willing to be dislodged from their new homes, so it's yet another fight for survival, one that the dogs appear to have the upper hand (or paw, I suppose) in.
